A Note re Distinction
Dear Readers,
Hello, this is author Andrea Maxand.
If you've landed on my page looking for the work of another author with a similar name, you may be looking for Andrea Max. We are two separate authors working in different genres. You can find out more about her YA fantasy novels here,
I hang out in the New Adult genre, telling stories about finding happiness on the edge of happily ever after. If you're curious about what I do write, then feel free to keep reading!
I've been an independent creator since the late 1990s (I know, I know, ancient). I started my writing journey as a musician, penning original songs and releasing three albums and two EPs on independent record labels. During that portion of my writing/creative life I was fortunate enough to collaborate with some fantastic Pacific Northwest musicians, including independent producer Chris Walla, Jason McGerr & Nick Harmer of Death Cab for Cutie, Charles R. Keller of the band Neo, and Burke Thomas of the bands Vendetta Red & Loaded.
These days I funnel my experience as an independent musician, cat parent, and multiple-hat-wearing human being into writing novels. I love the New Adult genre because early adulthood is a time of unlimited exploration, when you're legal and young enough to enjoy it. It's a time when you can come of age on your own terms.
I'll tell you a secret, though. I've been "coming of age" my whole life, and I don't ever want to stop. Maybe it's too late for me to become an Olympic gymnast, but there are always myriad possibilities open to all of us, at any age. We can always change. That's another thing I love about the New Adult genre: that sense of possibility for real transformation. We can all embody the grit it takes to risk making mistakes, learn new things, and become someone we never dreamed we could be.
